THE ADA AND CONSULTANTS
The ADA (Americans with disabilities act) provides for protection for Americans with disabilities in a number of ways. One of these is to provide protection from workplace discrimination. Did you know that independent contractors are not covered under the ADA? The landmark case of Holligsworth-Hamlon v. Alliance Franchise of Chicago, N.D. Ill., No. 97 C6841 went against a woman who was hired as an independent contractor and filed a claim under the ADA after being fired from her job. She argued that she had been fired because of her history of depression and anxiety.
