Radio Shack and Hurley State Bank - Be very careful with this card. Several years ago I had problems with this credit card. A couple of times I either paid by bill early or paid more than the current balance due. The following month I would receive a minimum balance due as $0.00 on my statement even though I had charges on the card. This happened several times and I mistakenly believed I could skip that month because of the zero minimum balance due on my statements. I started getting phone calls stating that I was past due and I later found out that Hurley Bank logged that I was over 30 days past due on several occasions to all the credit bureaus. When I complained to a customer rep for the credit card, she said she knew nothing about the zero balance due on my statements, could not due anything about the mis-reporting to the credit bureaus, and that it may take seven years to clear that off my credit reports. Since then I have repaired my credit and have other cards as well, but I have learned my lesson. I always make a payment on an account that I have a balance on. Even if it is a token $10.00 payment and I never trust a statement that comes with a minimum due of $0.00 on an account that I have charges on. Also be aware that some of the store and gas cards really come from a bank and have nothing to do with the products you purchased. I wouldn't recommend withholding payments to the bank because of a problem with something you purchased at a store. Pay on your statements and deal with the store separately.

The manager of a Radio Shack at North Cross Shopping Center in McAllen, Texas assisted me in purchasing an accessory for a Palm m105 Handheld. After I went home, the box had written on it that the assessory was not compatible for my Palm Handheld model. I questioned why an "electronic expert" allowed me to purchase in the first place an assessory that was not compatible for my electronic device. I took the item back the next day and the manager told me that I would have to wait seven days for my money to be refunded. Why? Because I wrote a check to purchase the item. I explained to the manager that I was not aware of any check refund policy. If so, I would have paid by credit or debit card for an immediate refund. The manager stated that the refund "check policy" is on the back of the receipt....and that I should read it. First, the manager sells me an item that is not compatible to my electronic device. Next, I have to wait seven days for a refund....because of his mistake. Third, there are no check refund policy posted anywhere on the walls. Last, the back of the receipt does not have a wtitten RS check refund policy...in other words, the manager lied to me. I called the regional manager in Houston, Texas and he wouldn't hear my complaint. He simply hung up the phone.....oh, by the way, he welcomed the Texas Attorney General involvement. Apparently, RS doesn't worry about anyone with authority to protect consumers. The RS Consumer Relations wrote a letter concerning "my feeling" on their "check refund" being "unfair." for their "check refund policy" Just like the regional manager in Houston....the RS Consumer Relations fail to address the real complaint(s). Apparently no one at Radio Shack can read their own receipts. It does state the following: "Refunds on purchases paid for by cash or check will be handled in the form of cash." As of this date, the manager has not apologized for his any of his actions....but I did get my money refunded...at the customers expense waiting for three days. Radio Shack does not care about keeping good relations with their good customers.

I purchased an extra satellite receiver from RADIO SHACK and two weeks later decided I did'nt need it. The box was unopened. I had the original receipt. On taking it back to RADIO SHACK at BELLS FERRY ROAD in ACWORTH GA. I was refused a cash refund ($84.79)with the explaination that the DEBIT card purchase would be credited to my account WHICH I HAD IN THE MEANTIME CLOSED. They were adamant this was the ONLY way it could be done and refused to accept the return of the un-needed and brand new receiver. My advice to anyone shopping at RADIO SHACK is to BE VERY CAREFUL because it appears they will try every tactic to get out from under their obligation as stated in their return policy. I am going to make a point of advising everyone by any means I know of to be EXTREMELY careful of RADIO SHACKS sharp practices and to pay only by cash as they will find every possible way to deny a refund otherwise. If you decide to shop at RADIO SHACK....GOOD LUCK.

I purchased a computer from Radio Shack in CT. This purchase was placed on a Radio Shack card funded by Hurely State Bank. The computer failed to function properly and underwent several major repairs over a one-year period. On the back of my statement is a rule that if I have a problem with goods or services purchased on this card, and try in good faith to resolve the issue, I may not have to pay on that item while in dispute. So I stopped making payments on this card, and informed the credit card company of the problems with the computer. I forwarded to them 42 pages of repair slips, copies of consumer complaint letters sent to the department of Consumer Protection, Office Of Attorney General, computer manufacturer, Radio Shack, and even news paper columns seeking help fixing or replacing this computer. In the mean time Radio Shack Credit card services began calling harassing me for payment. No mention was made of my complaint. They told me they did receive my complaint and they would look into it.

One year later we finally get the computer replaced and Radio Shack turns us over to a collection agency. Again I explain that we had trouble with the computer, that we would pay in full for the computer as soon as the computer was repaired or replaced. They began again calling my home and harassing me. They called, asked questions, then put me on hold when I tried to answer. They said they would put a report on my credit report that I had filed for bankruptcy and it would remain there for 7 to 10 years.

In June of that year, due to all the calls Radio Shack placed to my husbands' place of employment, he suffered a mental breakdown. He was unable to function for over two months, causing us to fall behind on all of our bills, which increased our stress. I myself am now taking antidepressants and anti anxiety medications. I am afraid to answer my phone or get the mail. I am afraid even more to allow my husband to answer the phone or the mail due to his current condition. Anything could cause him to relapse. Our home has been turned upside down due to this company harassing us.

I sent a letter of intent to sue. They did not respond in a 10-day period as stated in the letter. Then after I paid an attorney to start setting everything up to sue in court, they call wanting to know what I want. Now I am waiting for their reply again.

Our marriage has suffered, our health, our financial condition is ruined all because of one computer that did not work, and a company that did not care for anything more than getting their money? This is wrong. If I did to someone what this company has done to my home and my family, I would be put in Prison. But they can do it?

I need the address for the department of banking so I can send a formal complaint, and any addresses to any thing that will listen to my complaint.

Update to above: February 23, 2000

I am adding additional information or an update to a previous complaint concerning Radio Shack Credit Card/Hurley State Bank. My attorney suggested that I get a copy of my credit report and that I send a certified letter to Hurely State Band requesting a copy of their investigation into my oringial complaint concerning computer. This letter was sent out weeks ago and no one has responded to it. When the orginal complaint was filed with this company they were supposed to investigate my complaint and send in writting within 90 days their finale findings concerning my complaint. That was almost a year ago and nothing has been sent. This company just lost a legal battle with some attorneys from Mass. due to illegal ations taken against consumers who attempted to file bankruptcy. Seems underhanded actions are a norm for this company. Also in another Consumers link I found an article from an Ohio woman who was treated the same by the same company due to a faulty computer she to had purchased.

If you have had any problems with this company, please file a complaint report we will add your comments to these. Conversly, you may send positive comments and they will be added as well.
