Pacific Electronics, NY Rips Off Consumer!

Corporate Consumer - December 1, 1999

On Nov. 21, 1999, I purchased a Compaq computer along with monitor, printer, and accessories. The total price was $1,275. I paid $990 in cash and $285 on credit card. Although the store policy said NO REFUNDS, I was able to return it on Nov. 23, 1999 and received credit of $285 on my credit card. However, the person refused to give me the cash and granted me a check of $990 which said "refund for computer." However, he would not give me back the receipt because he told me I will get the refund (ex. check of $990. On Nov. 23, that night, I deposited the check. It was credited to my checking account on Nov. 24, 1999, but the funds were not available. On Dec. 1, 1999: I inquired about my checking balance and the check was either stopped or bounced. Therefore, I have no merchandise or no refund. In addition, the check had a different name, but same address of the store. The store's name is Pacific Coast at 940 Pennsylvania Ave. in Brooklyn NY 11236. The check had the name of King of New York Electronics INC. Can yoyu please inform me my consumer's rights as well as the probability that I will recover my total financial losses.
