National Credit Corporation, is not a legitimat company. In our state, Minnestoa, signing up someone for goods or services without their express permission is a violation of state law. I did not order any magazines from star, and yet im being billed for a collection from them. The practice of billing for a service without recieving notice from a consumer is illegal here. I am going to chase this one down and I am going to allert others to this, just in case they have problems. I will be contacting the state attorney generals office, and the office of consumer affairs, as well as the Minnesota department of commerce who im sure is unaware of National Credit Audit Corporation, as being a company that does not meet any guidlines for registration in this state..... i suggest that if any of you recieve any notices about this company, you do the same as these laws are here for you.

I've also received a Collection Notice from National Credit Audit Corp. regarding an unpaid subscription to Cooks Illustrated. Since I've never subscribed to this magazine, I decided to do a look up on the Internet -- and I was lucky enough to find this site. Thank you! I will respond to them and mention what I have found here -- also I will send a copy to the US Postmaster, as this may be considered mail fraud (?) Thanks again!

I received a "Collection Notice" from National Credit Audit Corporation (Peoria ILL.)on 3/14/2002. The notice says I owe $56.96 for a magazine (Star) subscription that I never ordered (but have received 3 times in my mailbox). I wish they had a better magazine to read for free as the "STAR" sucks. Be that as it may, I owe them nothing. I will pay them nothing. I would like to respond to them but it costs something to send a letter - so screw 'em. This is a scam and probably a nationwide one from reading one of your web reports on this subject. I suspect (duh!!) that STAR and NCAC are in cahoots in a fraud scheme. As I once said to myself: "Most crooks are not in jail, they are in business."

I received a collection notice from the National Credit Audit Corporation for nonpayment of a National Enquirer subscription. I have never subscribed to the National Enquirer, in fact, I have never even read a single issue. I contacted that National Enquirer regarding this matter. They confirmed that my credit is in good standing with them and that is was definitely a bogus attempt to collect money.

Scientific American Magazine sent a card that said if I returned it I could receive one free copy of the magazine. Before I received the free copy they sent a bill for $24.97. Later I started receiving a bill from National Credit Audit Corporation informing me that I had received the magazine and had not paid. I could correct the situation by paying them the $24.97. Signed Seymour Cardoza.

I am so glad I came across this site today. I also got a "Collection Notice" from National Credit Audit Corporation for a magazine I never ordered. I wrote a letter to the California State Attorney General's office and made a complaint with them also. I think everyone needs to write to their State Attorney General and let them know what this company is up too. I even tried calling National Credit Audit Corporation three times and no one answers the phone. It sounds like someone will answer then you get a busy signal.

Received a complimentary subscription from Chef's Catalog for placing a order for kitchen products. I was under no obligation, it was strictly a gift from Chef's Catalog for past business. The subscription was to Cook's Illustrated Magazine which I never read and never ordered. On 12-03-01 I received a threatening letter from National Credit Audit Corporation, 8600 N. Industrial Rd., Peoria, IL 61615 (309)692-3441, they are threatening me with credit action and ordering me to pay $19.95 for something I never ordered. This is harassment and is illegal. I feel they are trying to trick people and scare them into paying for something that they are not resposible to pay for.

National credit audit corporation I received a collection notice from this organization (about which there are many complaints on your website) for a magazine I don't receive. I have sent them a letter contesting the debt and noting that they are violating several federal laws in the text of their collection notice. I just wanted to add my voice to this website complaining about this company. I will be glad to participate if anyone wants to lodge a complaint or even file a class-action suit.

"National Credit Audit Association" is trying to collect on a nonsubscription to Cook's Illustrated. I earlier received what I thought (mistakenly) were invoices from the magazine, which I had not ordered. Tthey threatened to go to a "collection agency," and then I got the official-sounding dunning letter. It's an insidious way of cheating people!

Regarding National Credit Audit Corporation -

Like everyone else I started receiving subscriptions from 4 magazines that were unsolicated. I returned them and refused to pay the subcriptions. However, shortly thereafter I received a collection notice from National Credit Audit Corporation. Same address and name as everybody on this site as listed. I plan on taking this information to the California State Attorney General and to the Post Office. I recommend that everyone else do the same in their states. It's time to stop this practice!

I received a sneaky junk mail envelope in my mail. When I opened it it was from NCAC in Peoria, IL. I did a search and came accross your website. I am in the process off a full court press on them. The General Manager, Seymour Cardoza is a code name. I did a search, and there are no Cardozas living in the Peoria area. All I can say about National Credit Audit Corp is- Tim McVeigh- where are you now that we need you?

National Credit Audit Corporation has now sent me 2 "Collection Notice" mailouts for my Vanity Fair magazine. I still receive Vanity Fair at another address, which is paid in full, so I just keep ignoring them. Thanks to your web site, I have the confidence not to panic. I will be requesting a free credit report, however, to make sure this is not showing up ANYWHERE. Unfortunately, it appears Nat'l Credit Audit Corp. is listed as a valid collection agency in many states? Shame on this bogus "agency"!

Collection Notice from National Credit Audit Corp. (NCAC).

I recently received a second Collection Notice from NCAC after cancelling a subscription to Photographic magazine. NCAC is requesting that I pay $9.97 on my "unpaid account." I replied via regular mail to Seymour Cardoza, General Manager of NCAC, requesting information on which issues were sent to me after the subscription was cancelled. The second notice was the only response I received from NCAC.

Since they haven't (won't or can't) forward the information concerning my "unpaid account" to me, I am writing this off as some kind of marketing scheme or some person trying to obtain money from unsuspecting people.

Thank you for this website. You are doing people a great service.

National Credit Audit Corporation has struck again - it looks like they send out collection notices for magazines - in this case Business 2.0 - that come to you free - they say they were referred by the publisher - but we wrote the publisher to alert them of this and ask them to clear up any misunderstanding on their part or ours- If we had a legitimate account, we srely would have received at least one if not several bills first from the publisher - No legitimate business would not even try to collect a debt before turning it over to what appears to be a collection agency - And the phone message at Nat'l Crd Audit allows you to just push a button & eliminate your "debt" I can't imagine a legitimate debt collector that would not make some effort to establish if there were honestly a debt or not. This must be a lucrative scam - I hope the magazines are not in on it - cutting themselves a share of any gains that are received by people who were intimidated into paying - any other enlightenment out there on that ?

I also received a collection notice from National Credit Audit Corporation on behalf of a magizine, I did not subscribe to. This is another scam by the publishers to get money and make you subscribe.

This collection letter was signed by Seymour Cardoza and also added a P.S. which is the clue that this is a scam - it reads as follows: When your payment has been recorded, your subscription will be reinstated. They also want your correct address, if you moved, so they can bother you further.

Please be careful, of any such mailing.

Like other complaints I read on your site, I received a collection notice from the National Credit Audit Corporation for a magazine subsciption which I did not receive or subscribe (Golf World). Not only am I pissed at Golf World but also at the collection agency. These agencies are notoriously difficult to contact and to actually speak to someone to resolve the issue, you must call long distance at your own expense. Of course the reason is simply to make it so difficult and costly to resolve the issue that you pay the bill out of frustration.

I received an unsolicited copy of Consumer's Digest, then several bills for my "subscription" to the magazine. I ignored them all, as I had not requested the magazine (why should I waste my time and money to tell them they made a mistake?). They finally turned it over to their collection agency - National Credit Audit Corporation (NCAC), which sent a letter with the usual 30-days to repond junk. I responded immediately with a letter requesting proof of the subscription, referencing their "File number" on the letter. They never responded (but they never sent any follow-up bills, either). After six weeks, I sent a follow-up letter telling them that, since they had not responded, the charge is now considered voided. I also asked them to send documentation showing that they had notified all credit agencies they may have notified that the charge was voided. And, just to rub it in, I told them I expected a check for $25 to cover my expenses in dealing with the bogus charge. Of course, it has been another six weeks, and nothing has happened. I am also debating lodging a complaint with the BBB at their website (NCAC is listed with the Peoria BBB, and can be found at the local BBB website - www.peoria.bbb.org). For anyone else, be aware that the company was bought out by a company called ChoicePoint, Inc. out of Georgia back in November of 1998, but ChoicePoint doesn't seem to list the NCAC on their website. Other interesting items at various places on the web: NCAC is registered in Maryland, and has been since 12/22/82, but on the BBB Information sheet, they say they started in January of 1987(?). According to the BBB Information sheet, Ms. Marge Coulter is the Customer Service Supervisor. It also appears they opened an office in Arizona last year.

I responded to an offer on the web to receive one issue of CCM magazine (Contemporary Christian Music). AFter receiving the 1 issue, I promptly marked cancel on the card, and returned it. I did this twice. I then sent them a letter. I now have been referred to National Credit Audit Corporation for payment of $19.95 I noticed others have done the same on your site for different publications. What's going on with this company?

On some site I must have not unclicked a trial subscription to ESPN the Magazine. I knowingly did not subscribe to this magazine and was surprized when issues came to my mailbox. I got a nasty letter from their credit department and I phoned them and told them I did not want the subscription. I then got a nastier letter from their credit department. And now I got a collection letter from the National Credit Audit Corporation.

Suddenly I start receiving Business 2.0 in the mail. I didn't order it or send in a subscription. It is pure junk. I assume it is some free industry magazine. Then it stops coming. I'm happy, less junk.

Now I am being threatened by National Credit Audit Corporation for not sending in the $12.00 this magazine costs. If I don't respond in 30 days they say "We hereby inform you that unless you notify this office within 30 days after receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of this debt or any portion thereof, this office will assume this debt is valid.".

THIS IS EXTORTION!

I didn't order it and now I'm supposed to defend it or pay off this company?

Just for grins I searched the web and found this tidbit about my this company:

"National Credit Audit Corporation
8512 N. Allen Road
Peoria, IL 61615-1527
Phone 309-689-1000

Improve your pay-up by nearly 30 percent, reduce non-pay complaint mail and retain your valuable subscribers".

I have the exact same problem that you posted on the first page that came up on my computer. I just received a notice from the National Credit Audit Corporation about my "free, no risk" offer that they now say I owe $19.97 or they will throw a bad mark on my credit. I am going send a copy of your page and a letter back to them. Please let me know what else I can do to stop people like this from ripping off others.

Re: Consumers Readers Service

First, I've never heard of Consumers Readers Service but have dealt with several other magazine subscription telemarketers.

Anyway, it is possible to get unhooked from unscrupulous telemarketing claims and it is possible to get money back if it was improperly sucked out of your checking account(electronically debited - all they need is your checking account number) or charged to your credit card. I have done it on two occasions.

The keys are (based on my experience): Have a case and document your side (write down the essence of the phone calls right after they happen); communicate with them regarding disputes only via the mail (send your letters certified with return receipt) and never by phone (that is their turf and they will always win); on magazines received, return them to sender and keep a log that you did; report improper electronic debits to the Federal Reserve ASAP and ask their assistance in investigating (you will have to close the checking account and cancel the charge accounts involved to protect against further unauthorized debits/charges - the banks/card companies can't simply block them for you; and, most importantly, report the situation to your Office of the Attorney General ASAP and ask that they assign an investigator to the case (then talk with the investigator).

Also, advise the telephone solicitor you have the difference with to never call you again as, because of the situation, you will have to view the call as solicitation. Instruct them to contact you only by mail about disputed charges and sue them for $500 as the law allows if they call you again (establish who it is and hang up)-you can sue them easily in small claims court without a lawyer.

And, whatever you do, fight back. It will take many consumers fighting back to end some of the tactics that I have been exposed to.

Yet another scam with publishing companies that want money from us even though they say there is no obligation. I received a very official COLLECTION NOTICE from National Credit Audit Corporation suggesting that they will somehow screw up my credit if I don't send them the $19.97 immediately. The publication is for Weekend Woodcrafts. Thought you might like to know.
