MCI Problem!

This issue was sent to us 11/07/1999 by P.P., zip code 52722.

I have been a customer of MCI World Com for the past one year. I had an indefinite calling plan within the United States and to India from the United States. The calling rate to India was 55 cents and within the country was 10 cents on weekdays and 5 cents on sundays. I recieved a bill of $824.44 last month in which the company has charged me over $2.20 per minute for all calls to India and 17 cents for calls within the United States. They changed my calling plan without my consent and when I asked them who had authorized this change they said that I had. They had not taken the name of the person authorizing this, nor had they sent me a written confirmation of the change in calling plan. They had earlier billed me wrongly about Internet Service connections, which I have never asked for nor availed of since I use AOL regularly. My telephone bill has been consistently showing the wrong telephone number. Inspite of repeatedly asking the company to change the number, they still have not made the change. I have an extremely high call volume to India and within the country. My monthly bills range from 250 to 300 dollars. Why would I change my calling plan and then still continue calling India at $2.20? earlier when I recieved the bill I contacted the MCI customer service department. I was put in touch with a lady who said "someone in MCI changed my calling plan, these mistakes happen all the time". So she credited me the disputed charges on the phone and asked me to send in a check of the adjusted amount. later, I recieved a letter from the company denying the illegitimate charges and saying that I had to pay the whole sum of the bill. I got in touch with a supervisor this time, Miss Asha, who said that "the customer had called to change the calling plan on 19th september". when I asked who the customer was they said that they do not take names of people authorizing change in the calling plan.
