Consumer Gets Crammed!

name: J.

city: 60606

problem: 01/21/2000

There is a thing called cramming. It has happened to me by AT&T or Ameritech. I have not been able to determine who did this to me. Regardless, it is illegal and neither company is taking the blame for a $150.00 bill for local toll service. Service that I never requested. Please be careful when changing your service whenever you move or answering the phone when a telephone solicitor calls. Take precautions so this crime will not happen to you.

On October 1st 1999, I moved from one apartment to another. I also received a new phone number from Ameritech because of this. When my service was switched from one apartment to another on October 1st., Ameritech or AT&T also switched my local toll service to AT&T. I requested that AT&T remain my long distance carrier and Ameritech should remain as my local toll provider.

Three months later I was finally contacted by AT&T regarding an over due bill for local Toll service. After numerous phone calls to AT&T and numerous calls to Ameritech. Both companies stood firm and denied placing the initial order to have my service changed. But they both accused each other of placing the order.

I thought that if I were to have a conference call with Ameritech and AT&T, this would resolve the problem and we could find out who actually changed my service without my permission. On Tuesday, Jan, 19th I spoke with Maria Jenkins of AT&T and Kelly, Operator #601 of Ameritech. Again, each company stood their ground and denied that they were at fault. During the conference call they just kept blaming each other and nothing was resolved.

Right now each company claims that they have proof that the other placed the order, yet neither of them will provide me with a copy of the "proof" that they have. According to Rada, Maria Jenkins, Mindy Newsome & Michael Archie of AT&T and the information is stored in their computers and there is no way to obtain a copy of this. Ameritech's representatives, Kelly, Corina, Anna and Erin Harrington also state that they are unable to create a copy of their records because it is stored in their system.

Erin Harrington of Ameritech, states that they do not keep these records past 60 days, which I find hard to believe, since I have been able to subpoena records from Ameritech that were over a year old.

This problem remains unresolved to this date!
