Colorado Prime Meat Deal Goes Sour

colorado prime salesman comes to my house everything looked fine. i tried to cancell 2 days later my salesman didnt get back to me till about a week later.told me if i wanted to cancel i had 3 days. i told him i tried calling him but he didnt return my message. he told me i was to write to the company within 3 days.i was never told this till it was to late. im married with 3 kids and im out 154.00 dollars

9/4/02 REF: Colorado Prime Corporation 500 Bi-County Blvd, Suite 400 Farmingdale, NY 11735 T:1-631-694-1111 F:1-631-694-4064 Rep. Taylor Chamberlain met at 9/1/02 HOME SHOW Tampa Convention Center arranged appointment and seemed very sincere in company integrity and product quality. She showed up at our home for an 11:00 a.m. appointment. Proceeds with sales pitch, including bad meat re-dating story at local supermarkets aired on dateline. (see previous dateline consumer warnings on Colorado Prime Corporation. Note: We obviously do not watch dateline often enough or would not be posting this very important warning on Colorado Prime Corporation). She proceeded to make up a "Shopping List" for 6 months of food for our family of four. When questioned that it did not look like enough meals for 180 days of dinner (not including breakfast and lunch), she kept stating that she has done this for over 5 years, and the company has computerized how much people eat, and is adamant that she is 98% accurate on how much food is required. She then states that the company guarantees enough food for this time period will be provided even if she calculated incorrectly. (Incidentally, we never saw this guarantee written anywhere.) After a short break (3 hours after she started) I spread sheet the foods based on their printed “as supplied” quantities and how many meals it would provide (i.e. 4 hamburgers is supposed to feed 4 people for one meal). Her 6 month supply would feed us (as in the example above) for a whole 85 days. 96 and ˝ days short of 6 months. (This must be the new Colorado Prime Diet Plan !!)

2 hours of arguing later, that I was wrong and she knew how to calculate food, she called her supervisor, who confirmed I was correct, and she made a mistake. She then tried to explain that most people only eat at home 4 times per week and the rest of the time is eating out or ordering in. (NOTE: The math still does not work)

Once we finally got to a point where my children would not starve if we went with this program, my monthly bill went up by 180%. Now for the good part.

If we buy a TV, Grill and Cookware set, they will discount the food 60% (even though the paperwork said 50%) Of course all of that cost $10,000.

When you add the discounted food price, plus payment for goods, plus interest (had to ask the rate 4 times and she was very evasive stating “it is built into your monthly payment and the discounted food % pays for it”. Ultimately; when she was pinned down, she (and her boss) quoted a monthly payment of base principle reduction only they never included the 19% interest payment.

Even after all of this, it still seemed like we would save something over what we are currently spending and get an outrageously overpriced TV, Grill and cookware set.

She proceeded in filling out the paperwork and was told that the exact model number of what we were buying needed to be included. Things got side tracked and the telephone rang. When it cam time to sign papers, she slipped in the one with TV, Grill & Cookware Set, and never wrote any type of description. She also took all information that had her phone number.

She also tried to say if everything did not fit in our freezer, they would provide another one free of charge. When she called to ask her boss, he said no but they would split the shipments. She then tried to get me to sign my husbands name on the contract of which she was told NO! He was not present to which she claimed it was no big deal as we were married.

In short, we have promptly canceled this order, no longer want their services, and quite frankly do not trust them. We have send a letter canceling all contracts or representations along with their signed cancellation page by fax, and certified mail return receipt.

Now we have to call the people we referred her to, and notify them of the potential big problems. Thank god we limited the list to those we felt would not be put out by sales calls.

BUYER BEWARE. SCAMMERS TAKE HEART !!!!! WE MAY BE FOOLS FOR A SHORT TIME BUT NOT FOR 3 DAYS WORTH !! :)

By the way: For any of you who are looking for their fax number it is: 1-631-694-4064 listed from a European financial news sight, otherwise good luck.

Make sure if you send a cancellation, you send it certified return receipt.

PS, When I checked on the internet, I can not find the TV they said I would get with built in DVD. Not even the manufacture lists it as being a model they sell. An the mosts expensive HDTV that they did have was 1/3 the price.

Colorado Prime Foods sold me and my now ex wife what was supposed to be 6 months of food. In reality, it lasted about 4 months and when I actually got a per pound comparison, I found I was paying nearly $6.00 a pound for hamburger! Not only that, when my wife left, I was forced to sell my house. I called Colorado Prime as well as Concord Financial about the freezer, wanting them to take it back seeing I had no more use for it. Not only would they not take the freezer back, I am still paying on a freezer that I cannot use because they damaged it getting it into my storage area. It ended up staying with the new homeowner and I still owe nearly $1,000 to Concord Financial.

I WAS MISLED INTO BELIEVING THAT I BOUGHT A YEAR WORTH OF FOOD WITH COLORADO PRIME. I WAS TO RECEIVE 2 SHIPMENTS, 6 MONTHS APART. AFTER THE FIRST SHIPMENT WAS DEPLETED I CALLED TO GET RESTOCKED. THEY SAID I ONLY PURCHASED 6 MONTHS WORTH. SO MY FAMILY OF 5 WENT THROUGH MONTHS OF FINANCIAL STRESS BECAUSE OF THIS RUTHLESS COMPANY.
